We would like to preface this feedback by mentioning that we were explicitly and repeatedly asked by Dickon to leave a Google Review following our decision to move away from Silverfox Search LTD in summer 2023. We aren't usually 'review people' here at The Woolacombe Bay Hotel, we understand the impact to a business to receive feedback of this nature, but we feel compelled on this occasion, our reasoning outlined below.
The good stuff:
Silverfox Search took us onboard as a new client during a crucial point in our website's journey. Dickon agreed to website hosting, SEO, PPC management and website management at relatively short notice. Once we began working together, we experienced some delays relating to website development tasks and this was put down to the fact that our website had been built with a bespoke Content Management System (CMS). We were also advised that this was holding us back in terms of search engine performance. Hoping that these aspects would improve with a new website, we invested in Dickon's "team" and commissioned them to rebuild our website in WordPress.
The bad stuff:
Unfortunately there's quite a lot. Here's a summary of the key aspects:
1. Delayed delivery of our new website and a lack of open communication throughout the development process. Close to the 'go live date' scheduled for our website, we were sent a link to review and it was clear that it was far from ready. This had not been openly communicated. We know delays happen and we would have understood if the issue was managed well, but this was not the case. Instead, we found that the development was being completed by a third-party developer who was not a member of Dickon's team and we were left to communicate with the developer with no hand-over or accountability. Despite commissioning the project with plenty of time, delivery was delayed by a few weeks and we felt like we were going round in circles. Please note: this was not a complete design overhaul, just a rebuild of our existing website.
2. Our new website lacked vital SEO elements. This contributed to a 20% reduction in organic traffic to our website. This reduction was not flagged as a concern in monthly reports; we discovered it ourselves when investigating a reduction in bookings. A 20% reduction is search traffic is huge; we felt this significant information was 'glossed over' and it was this that led to a crisis of confidence in Silverfox Search.
3. Some website pages delivered by Silverfox were not compatible with major browsers. We discovered this months after parting ways, and have had to pay to have elements rebuilt.
4. Incorrect set-up of web forms and inadequate testing. Due to this, for months, we did not receive important enquiries (unbeknownst to us).
Unfortunately, during the time we worked with Silverfox Search (close to 2 years) we experienced what felt like a lack of accountability and professional 'gaslighting'. We don't enjoy using a term that seems so overused, but so many concerns raised by our team were brushed over - like they were nothing - when in fact they were significant. We even received what we believe to be AI generated responses to serious issues we raised! It's astounding.
As mentioned, we aren't the kind of business to leave reviews, but our opinion was requested multiple times and we feel it is our responsibility to be honest. At the end of the day, when you work with a digital agency, you trust them to lead you in the right direction and to be open and transparent about the results achieved; we don't feel this was the service we received.
To this day - 6 months after replacing Silverfox Search - we are still finding and resolving issues. The cost to resolve the issues is high, but nothing compared to the cost of the opportunities we have lost. Thankfully, since switching to a new agency the performance of our Google Ads has increased significantly, our conversions are up, and our traffic from search is slowly returning.
Given what we experienced, we do not recommend Silverfox Search.

Whether you are just starting out with a website and are looking to get a foot on the digital ladder, or you are wanting to go all out with your digital marketing, Dickon is a results-driven ‘techy’ that it’s been my pleasure to work with on behalf of a number of clients over the last five years; always happy to help and highly-regarded by others in the same field, he is considered an expert in all things digital, with an enviable relationship with, and a stronger-than-most working knowledge of Google. He will tailor the work he does for you according to your brief and budget (where possible of course and advise on alternatives if not!) to ensure your objectives are met and a ROI achieved. Thanks Dickon.
